More than a Footballer

Chapter 3 More than a Footballer

Throughout Steven’s career he and his team mates have visited and supported many different charities, but in 2011 he launched his own charitable Foundation—the Steven Gerrard Foundation.

This was his way of giving something back to the city that has made him who he is today—and reaching out to help as many children in need as possible.

Its aim is to generate as much money as possible for a range of children’s charitable organizations and projects. The intention is to provide relief to children and young people in need, whether through illness, family breakdown, disability, involvement in the streets, or financial or educational disadvantage. The foundation operates worldwide, but is particularly focussed in Liverpool.

This has enabled Steven to keep track of how every penny is being spent. Being involved so closely means he can see how it helps children and their families in so many different ways.

"Steven’s dedication to his Foundation is second to none, he is passionate about being able to help as many children as possible. It’s with thanks to the awareness he has created over the past four years, along with all our supporters that we have been able to raise such a substantial amount of money and reach out to so many."

All-Star Game

Chapter 3 More than a Footballer

In March 2015 Steven championed the Liverpool All-Star Charity Match held at Anfield to raise vital funds for the LFC Foundation and other charity partners, including Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. This game was an excellent example of how the LFC family can come together to help each other.

The match, played in front of a sell-out crowd raised thousands of pounds and gave thousands of fans the chance to see Steven on the pitch at the same time as some of the greatest players he’s featured with – or against – in his time at Liverpool. Read More

"When Stevie called me to invite me to the game, of course I would be there, I would do anything to be there. It was important to play with Stevie one more time, who knows if it is the last time. All my great memories, most of them are next to him. I know it’s a very important day for him so this was the minimum thing I could do."
